Engagement Analytics Part 1

Digital marketing with engagement analytics is the most significant change to come to the event industry in decades.  Seriously.  Since the dawn of this industry, a trade show consists of a a multi-day feast that resembles something like the game of “Hungry-Hungry Hippos”. Many companies are at a single event and compete for leads inside of a three or four day period.  After the show goes dark, the only “next step” is to follow up on the collected leads.  That is it.

The Journey is Sometimes More Important than the Destination

One of my favorite news personalities is ABC correspondent, Dan Harris.  I once met the guy in a NYC bar, struck up a brief conversation and went on my way confident that he is the same character he would have you believe on television.  I am in no way a guy that gets “star-struck” (okay, perhaps only by Sidney Crosby), so it was easy to enjoy my conversation with Mr.

Old School – Meet New School

This week I dropped my youngest two daughters to their respective schools. Both were bright eyed and ready for a new adventure. Every time I do so, I get a twinge of nostalgia and the sudden urge to sharpen a No. 2 pencil in an old-school, manual pencil sharpener. Then, I remember that I never have to eat cafeteria food again, and I feel a deep appreciation for adulthood.

Face-to-Face Marketing Trumps all…again.

It is that time of year again. I am suffering from “vacation-brain” as I prepare to head out for two weeks of R&R with my family. As importantly, I am in the midst of meeting with many of our customers to discuss event-marketing budgets for 2016 and to determine which shows worked and which did not in 2015. My belief is that “it’s not quantity, it is quality.”  It’s a cliché if there ever was one. But clichés exist for a reason — they’re validated by repeated experiences.

We Can All Learn From Hybrids

I have never been a “car guy.” I am pretty sure that I was not born with the “car fascination gene” at all. For most of my life, I have been fairly indifferent to them in general.  As a sales pro, I do spend a great deal of time in my car, so comfort, safety and four tires are more important than anything else.

Games, Technology and Learning

With the first half of my family’s move over, I stood over all of the “stuff” that we were unpacking and wondered why I ever needed any of it in the first place. What was it about that flexible strainer with a non-stick handle that was attractive enough for me to shell out $20? As I prepared the donation bag, many of the items I sorted begged the same question. Why would I have spent my hard earned money these things?
